Range of Services offered at Janakikund Chikitsalaya

Matritva Sadan (Obstetrics & Gynaecology)

Jankikund Chikitsalaya developed its obstetrics and gynaecology department as its main pillar of services, owing to the acute need for specialized services for women and child care. In the rural region surrounding Chitrakoot, health services for women and children are scarce as they form the most vulnerable sections of the communities resulting in high maternal and infant mortality rate. The department was inaugurated as Matritva Sadan (Home for Mothers) with funding support from Surekha Charitable Trust.

The prime objective of the department is to provide safe motherhood and child birth. It also encourages couples and families to adopt family planning measures. The Department has two labour rooms, a well equipped Operation Theatre, a special Neonatal ward, private wards and a General Ward. There are specialist doctors available 24 hours for any emergency. The Department is dedicated to providing treatment and care to the rural women and children.

General Surgery

The Department specialized in performing Open and Laproscopic surgeries using the latest techniques along with other general surgical procedures. The surgeons at Jankikund Chikitsalaya are also equipped to performing removal of kidney stones, gall bladder stones, laparotomies, hernia, hydrocoel and prostrate surgeries which are performed routinely under the Department. Advanced non-invasive techniques are practiced to remove kidney stones. The Department also takes up tumor removal and some cancer treatment.

The Department has endeavored to provide surgeries at nominal charges, keeping surgery costs two-time less than other hospitals. Nobody who doesn’t have the capacity to pay is denied services. The Department has applied a number of cost-effective measures to overcome cost of surgery as an accessibility barrier to seeking healthcare.

Dental Clinic

The Department provides quality dental treatment at affordable cost to all who access services at the hospital. The Department also organizes dental camps on a regular basis to reach out services to the rural populace in difficult to reach areas. The first dental camp was organized by the renowned dentist Dr. Labh Shankar Shukla, 30 years ago. Regular dental camps are conducted by Dr. Harshad Bhai Joshi.

Rural Health Care Program

Rural health care forms the second core pillar of services offered under the ambit of Jankikund Chikitsalaya. Reaching out healthcare to the rural populace has been a prime objective of the Trust and the Jankikund Chikitsalaya has been working tirelessly to achieve this objective. Village health camps are organized on a regular basis in remote difficult to reach areas to reach general healthcare to the doorstep of the communities. The Sadguru Nursing School organizes health education programs in the villages surrounding the Hospital to create an awareness about diseases and promote health seeking behaviour and preventive care in the village communities.

Naturopathy, a sub-speciality of Ayurveda was inaugurated in 2002. The Department has cured a large number of patients since then owing also to its prominence of using natural herbs and oils.

This camp is open to people from all walks of life who suffer from polio deformity of any kind. The camps witness the best doctors visting from major cities namely Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad to name a few who screen patients who are later provided prosthetic correction and/or surgery. Most of the polio camps have been organized under the supervision of Dr. H.K Vakharia reputed in polio corrective interventions. Free Post operative care and is provided for about a week in the hospital. The accompanying families and relatives are also provided free boarding and lodging in the Trust campus. Wherever required, free calipers are distributed after 2 months of surgery. These are donated by Dr. M C Bhandari from the Mahavir Viklang Sahayta Samiti, Kota, Rajasthan.

Gastroenterology

Gastroenterological problems are rampant in Chitrakoot and its adjoining areas. Majority of these patients come with abdominal pain, disturbed bowel habits and disturbed menstrual cycle in females.

Looking at the magnitude of the problem the administrators of JKC decided to establish a diagnostic department in 2007 and a gastro scope was procured in March 2007. The Gastroscope picks up abdominal disorders till the upper portion of small intestine.  184 upper GI endoscopies have been performed successfully till date by the department. During the checkups cases of stomach and esophagus cancer have also been detected at an early stage.

ENT camp

Hospital Based Programs on ENT are regularly organized with the support of SEVA Foundation and a long term volunteer of the JKC, Dr. Samir Bhatt from Boston Hospital, USA.  These camps provide a unique opportunity of increasing the awareness of the local surgeons including those at the district level.  These camps are beneficial for early identification of problems, low cost treatment as well as for follow-up of patients. Over than 500 patients benefit from these services and on an average 90 surgical interventions are performed.
